Introduction
Most of the wineries near San Luis Obispo, SLO, are south of town in the Edna Valley. While there are few wineries this region but it is worth at least a couple of days to explore. The vineyards are world class, the wines are famous, and the tasting rooms are rarely crowded. The old mission town of San Luis Obispo is a delight to explore.
Traveler services are in SLO and the Pismo Beach area to the south. Nice selection of hotels and dining available at reasonable prices.

Must See San Luis Obispo Wineries - an introduction to the region.
- Cerro Caliente
- Interior ambiance - somewhat French inside an industrial park bay with a working winery and a classic car theme. Sounds odd but the ambiance will surprise you. Picnic indoors on a cold day.
- Baileyana -
- Architecture and interior - beautiful renovation of an old schoolhouse. Large gift shop.
- View - nice few of the vineyards and hills.
- Edna Valley
- Interior ambiance - view bar with a great view of the valley.
- Gift shop - one of the largest in the state.
- Tolosa
- Architecture and interior - fine post-modern and interesting tasting room.
- Picnic site - nice covered picnic patio with waterfall feature.
Off-The-Beaten-Track San Luis Obispo Wineries
The whole region is somewhat off-the-beaten-track. Perbaco is a bit out of the way but popular with locals. While Laetitia is next to 101 many tasters don't slow down and drive up there.
Romantic San Luis Obispo Wineries
A special ambiance for long quiet conversations and enjoying love. Usually we have a secluded outdoor scene in mind.
- Tolosa - The little patio and water feature in the back is somewhat out of the traffic flow.
- Baileyana - no seclusion but a very nice view and the old schoolhouse tasting room is romantic.

Your tastes change frequently. Do wine ratings, gold medals, etc. really matter?
