What information we collect and how we use it:
- Information collected for tasters / Quester members: To signup we request your user name and password you select, email address, time zone, the year you were born, gender, state / province, country, and of course the usual social networking info that you choose to provide in your profile. We collect your log-in information so you can log-in. We use the year you were born and gender only for analyzing our site so we have an understanding of participation by age and gender categories. We have no interest in individual's age and gender and do not use that information with individual identification. The information you enter for your profile will be displayed publicly or not depending on your choices in your profile's privacy settings. You have control. We may use that information internally for analysis but we will not associate it with individuals.
- Information collected for wineries and other businesses: To signup we request your user name and password you select, email address, time zone, and wine region. This information is kept confidential. All other information is publicly displayed in your profile depending on the privacy settings that you select in your profile settings. You have control. We may use that information internally for analysis but we will not associate it with individual wineries.
- How we use your email address: It is used by you for logging into your account. We may occasionally broadcast Web site news to our members. Primarily this would be to alert members to major new features or if some administrative issue came up that had to be announced. Emails to members are very rare, maybe twice a year.
- Cookies: At this time we have very limited use of cookies, those little text files that Web sites place on your computer that help sites keep track of a tiny bit of member information. If you want your login to be remembered then you check a box during your login and we place a cookie on your computer. We use a cookie for our Web site statistics and analytics software so we have a clue what is going on with site traffic. It collects anonymous traffic data. That's about it. You can control cookies in your browser privacy settings. Often a browsing experience is improved by allowing cookies and we really need the Web site traffic info so please allow cookies.
- Web site security: We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure in our database. Our Web site hosting company seems to have excellent security in place for their servers. We use a variety of coding and internal processes to provide a reasonably secure environment. However, providing the quality of security of say PayPal or Amazon.com is beyond our capabilities. Such security is awfully expensive. Please do not use your banking log-in information for WineQuesters.com. While we feel the chances of our database being hacked is remote we can't guarantee it 100%.
- Sale or distribution of your information: We have already turned down such requests and will continue to do so. If we sell WineQuesters.com then your information will pass to the new owner. However, you will be notified at your log-in email address and you can delete your account and information if you wish. We may use members' aggregate information to entice advertisers to WineQuesters.com. We need a revenue model in order to maintain the site and provide us with a living and return on investment from years of work. Information associated with an individual member will never be used, only the information from an aggregation of members.
Summary
- We don't use your info to spam. Messages to members are rare.
- You control privacy settings in your profile. You can delete your account at any time.
- We try not to be hacked but can't absolutely guarantee it.
