The Santa Barbara County Wine Region is centered on the small towns of Santa Ynez, Solvang, Buellton, and Los Olivos. This is the area of the hit movie "Sideways" fame. There are less traveled sub-regions in the Santa Maria Valley, the Santa Rita Hills, and Lompoc. The beautiful beachside town of Santa Barbara has a half dozen wineries in-town that are a delight to explore. The Santa Barbara County wineries are favorites of Southern Californians but you will find visitors from all over the world here. The hilly terrain is scenic and the back roads romantic. Winery picnicking is more popular here than in the other regions and finding a space on a weekend at mid-day is a challenge. The Santa Ynez / Los Olivos area can get a bit crowded at times but if you want to escape just drive west to visit the Santa Rita Hills wineries or north toward Santa Maria and visit the Foxen Canyon wineries.
Visitor services are primarily along the highway in Buellton and the quaint Danish town of Solvang. Our favorite places for dinner? Grappolo in Santa Ynez and Root 246 in Solvang.
