There are old-time winemakers with tiny tasting rooms to monumental architectural wonders of the world.
While the marquee wineries of Highway 29 from Yountville to Saint Helena are among the most famous and exciting anywhere, there are also wineries off the main roads of incredible charm and quite romance.
The Napa Valley hosts over 4 million visitors a year and most seem to congregate at the wineries along Highway 29 south of St. Helena. However, make the short trip over to the Silverado Trail (a road, not a dirt track) or to the north end of the valley around Calistoga for a less crowded experience.
Calistoga, famous for hot spring spas, and the city of Napa have most of the services with a few motels and restaurants in Saint Helena and Yountville. Less expensive and more available accommodations are Santa Rosa and Vallejo.
Taste of Oakville is an annual educational event organized by the Oakville Winegrowers and is by invitation only to members of the on and off premise trade. Registration for the 2012 event will open on March 1st of 2012.
