The Monterey County Wine Region is a bit sparse for wineries and rather spread out in two valleys, the Carmel and Salinas Valleys. The wine region on the west side of the Salinas Valley is the Santa Lucia Highlands. Each valley has more than enough adventure for a day of wine questing with the extra treat of exploring the art galleries in Carmel, the shops in Monterey, hiking in the nearby mountains, mountain biking in the old Fort Ord, or of course the world famous golf courses and Big Sur coast.
There are some visitor services in the tiny village of Carmel Valley where many winery tasting rooms are located but the main towns are Carmel and Monterey. There are unique tasting rooms here that you will not find elsewhere so don't miss exploring the Monterey County wineries!
