California's Amador County is one of the Sierra Foothills wine regions and just east of Highway 49. The significant towns in the main wine region is Plymouth with a few services and a motel and the quaint Gold Rush town of Sutter Creek to the south with more services. Placerville to the north is the largest town in the area with many motels and a few fine dining restaurants. Further south is Jackson with numerous restaurants and motels.
Most of the Amador County wineries are nestled in the little Shenandoah Valley east of Plymouth and are easy to find and visit. This valley has a couple of nice loops to travel and many interesting wineries to explore. It is known for Zinfandel.
