Many tasters consider the Sonoma Valley to be the un-Napa Valley. It is so close to Napa but is calm, relaxed, and far less crowded. Traffic is a bit much on Highway 12 on the weekends and it can be a little challenging to dart in and out of wineries but compared to Highway 29 just over the hills to the east the Sonoma Valley is deserted. That doesn't mean that the Sonoma Valley wineries aren't up to Napa standards. These wineries are great experiences with a diverse selection of monumental architecture, trophy landscaping, tiny working wineries with just the vintner behind the simple tasting bar, and, incidentally, some of the world's finest wines. Visitor services are in Santa Rosa and Sonoma with a few B&B's scattered around the valley. Visit our Quester Network for winery information.
