El Dorado County Wine Region is centered on the old gold mining town of Placerville on historic U.S. Highway 50. The wineries in this region are spread out through the hills and mountains on narrow country roads. Some are rather remote and an accurate map is necessary. El Dorado wineries are usually small and family owned. It is an old wine region, for California, but is only recently being discovered by most tasters. Wine tasting here is a real adventure in wayfinding and diverse experiences. Vistor services are very limited in most areas except for the quaint town of Placerville. Be sure to include in your plans the huge fruit markets in Camino with their fresh apples and apple pies, along with other treats. Visit our Quester Network for the juicy details on this region.
